In Croatia the SEA Directive has been transposed into national environmental legislation (Environmental Protection Act (OG 80/2013)), Regulation on strategic environmental assessment of plans and programmes (OG 64/2008), Regulation on information and participation of the public and public concerned in environmental matters (OG 64/08) and Ordinance on the Committee for Strategic Assessment (OG 70/08)).

Strategic Environmental Assessment has been applied in Croatia since 2007. Primary legal framework for SEA is set in the new Environmental Protection Act which entered into force on July 6, 2013.

The new Croatian environmental protection legislation that are aligned with the provisions of the EU legislation regulates joint procedure for SEA and Assessment of the acceptability for the ecological network (Nature Protection Act (OG 80/13), Ordinance on the assessment of acceptibility for the ecological network (OG 146/14)).
